take it outside

It’s summertime!  And if you’re like me you are sick and tired of being cooped up indoors with all the snow we had this winter.  So take your booty out of the gym and do something different.  It will keep you motivated and maybe you’ll have some fun.  Here are some ideas to get you started.

Play with your kids at the park.  (I do silly stuff my daughter thinks is hilarious, like do squats when I push her on the swing, or lunges to cross the playground)

Go swimming, play splash, have fun, but get some laps in there.  It’s practically no impact so anyone can do it, an it’s a great cardio option.  I’m not a swimmer myself, but one of my goals for the summer is to learn at least one stroke.

Go for a walk/jog/run.   OUTSIDE!  Find some local trails to hit or just run around the neighborhood.  I like to run around neighborhoods I dream of living in and look at the houses, it keeps my head someplace other than “why am I running?” I also like the trails out by the dam in Lawrence, but take a buddy. (It’s not thats its dangerous- just isolated, and I want you to be safe)

Go to a track.  It’s easy to do intervals there. Run the straight aways and walk/jog the curves.

Play a sport.  Join a softball or kickball league.  Get a friend to play tennis.

Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head.  This exercise thing is a lifestyle, but it doesn’t mean that you have to put in yourtime on a treadmill everyday.  Just get movin.  It can be fun too!
